SUMMARY:Breakfast of Champions
DESCRIPTION:The old adage "she's always on a dead run" accurately describes your at-large Sandy City Councilwoman. Linda Martinez Saville "runs" from morn' till night on behalf of all in need: first as a wife\, mother and grandmother\; then she's off to the Boys and Girls Club of Sandy. As the director of the Club\, Linda provides activities in a safe environment for over 1\,700 children enrolled in the program who would otherwise be latch-key children.\n\nShe began working as a teacher specialist in the Jordan School District in 1979. She taught Special Education Behavioral Disorder students for 13 years\, worked with high-risk girls under the direction of the Boys and Girls Club\, and directed that club's "Girls with A Voice" program. She has also served as the Executive Director of the Sandy Club. "A Safe Place for Boys and Girls" for the past 15 years.\n\nLinda received the annual Noel Bateman Award which is given by prior recipients to a member of the community who has exhibited exemplary community service.\n\nLinda considers herself a servant of the people. She served two terms as President of the Jordan High PTA\, was a Cub Scout Den Mother for 10 years\, was President of the Sandy City Police Auxiliary\, and played a vital role in obtaining a CRIN Iris Thermal Imager for the Sandy City Fire Department -- The first thermal imager in the State. We are now fortunate to have one CRIN Iris Thermal Imager at each fire station in Sandy.\n\nLinda is currently serving her 4th term on the City Council. During her first and second terms\, she served four times as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Council\, and has been the Council's liaison to many committees.\n\nLinda has been married since 1969 to Gary Saville\, a retired Sandy City Police Officer. She has four children\, three grandchildren\, and two grand dogs.\n\nAs she works endlessly on behalf of all Sandy citizens\, Linda has also served as Vice-Chair on the Sandy Senior Center Advisory Council\, Exchange Club of Sandy\, Healthy Sandy Steering Committee\, Jordan School District Comprehensive Guidance Advisory Committee\, and the Neighborhood Committee to Promote Awareness of Light Rail Safety. She also served on several boards\, including: Sandy Museum\, South Valley Sanctuary\, Sandy Arts Guild\, Parks\, Trails and Recreation\, Beautification Committee and the Board of Adjustment. She also was the area leader for her Neighborhood Watch program. She was recently given an award for the Miss Sandy Pageant 2004 and Miss Utah Pageant 2005.\n\nWith an emphasis on safety awareness and children\, Linda's goal is to hear your voice\, weigh the issues\, then make decisions for the benefit of the entire city.
