Our presenters include Kari Larson, Utah Jazz VP of Community and Special Events; Clay Partain, Sports Salt Lake Executive Director; and Mark White, Visit Salt Lake Chief Sales and Experience Officer.
SPEAKER BIOS
Kari Larson
Kari Holt Larson joined the communications department for the Utah Jazz in July 2017 with a promotion to Vice President of Community and Special Events. She is responsible for creating, organizing and executing events that broaden the business, civic and public engagement of the Utah Jazz.
As part of the public and community relations staff, Kari oversees the department by developing impactful CR programming that leverages the NBA social impact platform. She plans annual, reoccurring and one-of-a-kind events like the Utah Jazz charity gala, Summer League, community partner events, alumni reunions and special activities. She is leading organizational efforts for the 2023 All-Star Weekend and serves as the primary liaison with the NBA.
Kari joined the LHM Group of Companies in 2013 and has worked with a variety of entities including Jazz Basketball Operations, Saxton Horne Communications and Tour of Utah. She previously worked for the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation and the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. She graduated from BYU in International Relations and has her MBA degree from the University of Utah.
She loves to spend time with her family and friends, especially when sports and good food are involved. Kari grew up in Bountiful, Utah and currently lives in Farmington with her husband Jeremy and two daughters Olivia and Lucy.
Clay Partain
Clay Partain, STS has been actively pursuing sports related events for Visit Salt Lake over the past 8 years. Over Clay’s watch, the sports segment has grown from a relatively small market space to representing a significant portion of Visit Salt Lake’s total production.
In 2015, Clay was awarded the prestigious Visit Salt Lake - Diane Binger Sales Leadership Award, and then repeated that again in 2021. He was also the 2017 Connect Sports Game Changer of the Year, and the 2019 Connect Sport’s Supplier of the Year. In 2019, Clay graduated from the National Association of Sports Commission as a Certified Sports Event Executive, of which he was the first person in the state of Utah to obtain. Clay has also served on numerous committees and boards, and most recently serves on the Board Of Directors with the Sports Events and Tourism Association.
In January 2021, Visit Salt Lake formally launched Sports Salt Lake with the purpose of growing Salt Lake’s reputation as a major sports destination. Clay took on a new expanded role as Executive Director of Sports Salt Lake, and now oversees all sales, servicing, marketing, and promotion for the sports tourism market. He also serves on the Executive Leadership for Visit Salt Lake.
Mark White
Mark White is Visit Salt Lake’s Chief Sales & Experience Office. In that role, he oversees a team of 26 people in five offices who attract and provide services to meetings, athletic events, and conventions. His enthusiastic, client-centric leadership has been instrumental in putting Salt Lake City on the map. Visit Salt Lake’s bookings have increased an impressive 8% year over year since 2002. His team booked nearly 900,000 hotel room nights in 2022 to be consumed in future years, which was organization’s best booking year ever.
Prior to joining Visit Salt Lake 30 years ago, Mark worked in the investment and banking industry. He holds an MBA, and Destination International’s highest credential; the Certified Destination Management Executive.
Caryn Bradshaw
Caryn has been with Visit Salt Lake in numerous capacities over the last 16 years. She began her career with the bureau as a sales administrator. However, Caryn’s passion to provide a high level of support with clients led her to a larger role within the services department. In late 2022, Caryn was elevated to Managing Director for the newly established Sports Salt Lake division.
Under Caryn’s tenure, Sports Salt Lake is now recognized nationally for their outstanding achievement in providing services to incoming sporting events. Visit Salt Lake also recognized Caryn with the first ever S.A.L.T. employee of the year award, which highlights the top employee that provides outstanding Service, Accomplishment, Leadership, and Tenacity.
Caryn currently serves as chair on the Employee Action Committee for Visit Salt Lake, and is widely known in the company for her leadership amongst fellow employees.
