About Our Speaker:
Ryan McConaghie
Fire Chief, Sandy City
Ryan McConaghie has been with Sandy City Fire Department for almost 25 years and was recently appointed to the position of Fire Chief. Over his career, he has served in the roles as Firefighter, Paramedic, Engineer, Captain, Battalion Chief, and Deputy Chief.
Ryan started in the fire service 27 years ago as a volunteer with the Springville Fire Department. After being hired with Sandy City in 2001, he attended UVU’s paramedic program. Ryan has degrees from BYU, UVU and Ricks College, as well as a Supervising and Managing Fire Officer Designations from the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy. Ryan has also been a member of the Utah State Fire Chiefs Association (USFCA) since 2018.
Ryan is the father of three children and currently lives in Lehi, Utah. He was born in Fairbanks, Alaska on the Fort Wainwright Air Force Base and later grew up in Mesa, Arizona. He is the second oldest in a family of eight children.
After high school, Ryan served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Honduras and Guatemala, where he was able to build on the skills of hard work and dedication that his parents taught him growing up.
In his spare time, Ryan enjoys cycling, mountain biking and motorcycle riding. Recently, he has added snowmobiling to his list of activities. He also enjoys travel and has served as the expedition paramedic for Choice Humanitarian on trips to Bolivia, Nepal and Kenya.
Ryan loves working in the fire department and has had so many memorable experiences serving through the years. The people that he works with really make the job exceptional and he values the relationships that he has made.
