Development Director
Habitat for Humanity Greater Salt Lake Area (HFHGSLA)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Development Director to join our senior leadership team. This position will lead the creation, execution, and evaluation of all fundraising, marketing, and event strategies, ensuring a diverse and sustainable revenue portfolio to support HFHGSLA’s mission. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, strategic, and hands-on leader with a donor-centered philosophy and a commitment to advancing affordable homeownership in our communities.
Minimum Commitment: Two years
Location: Greater Salt Lake Area
Reports To: CEO
Supervises: Development Committee, Special Events Committee, and Marketing team
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Collaboration

Serve as primary liaison to the Development Committee and support board and CEO in achieving fundraising goals.

Lead strategic evaluation and implementation of the organization’s annual development operating plan.

Create a culture of philanthropy by actively engaging board, staff, and volunteers in fundraising efforts.

Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of development strategies and provide actionable insights to leadership.

Fundraising Strategy & Grant Writing (20%)

Write, review and submit compelling grant proposals and reports to foundations, government agencies, and corporations to secure at least $1.5 million annually.

Develop and execute robust strategies for both unrestricted and restricted funding.

Research and cultivate funder relationships aligned with HFHGSLA’s mission and programs.

Oversee special campaigns and lead capital efforts that meet specific funding targets.

Major Donor Cultivation & Stewardship (40%)

Cultivate and manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, board members, and corporate sponsors to secure at least $500,000 annually in major gifts.

Design customized engagement and stewardship plans tailored to giving histories and donor interests.

Coordinate face-to-face solicitations, donor events, and high-level meetings with the CEO, board, and key stakeholders.

Fundraising Campaign & Database Management (10%)

Oversee donor management system (CharityProud), ensuring accurate data tracking, reporting, and acknowledgment.

Coordinate annual campaigns, end-of-year appeals, and other key initiatives.

Set and track progress against measurable fundraising goals.

Supervise and collaborate with the Marketing Director to execute marketing plans.

Oversee production of newsletters, website content, print collateral, media relations, social media, and event promotions.

Ensure all communications support a unified and compelling brand.

Produce regular reports for the CEO, Board of Directors, and stakeholders.

Event Planning & Management (30%)

Lead planning and execution of all major fundraising events, including the annual Gala, donor appreciation events, and community engagement activities.

Coordinate logistics, sponsorship outreach, event promotions, volunteer engagement with the volunteer manager, and program development.

Collaborate with the Special Events Committee, Marketing Director, and Volunteer Manager to ensure impactful and well-attended events.

Evaluate event performance and integrate outcomes into fundraising strategies.
Desired Qualifications

Proven success in nonprofit development, ideally in a fast-paced or growing organization.

Demonstrated ability to secure major gifts and manage donor stewardship at all levels.

Strong strategic planning, organizational, and project management skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills—written and verbal.

High proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPress, donor databases, and online research.

Visual aesthetic and branding awareness preferred.
