As the Year-End DOT Testing Deadline Nears, a Sandy Company Brings Compliance to the Job Site

SANDY, Utah — [DATE] — Trucking companies, construction firms, and delivery fleets across the south Salt Lake Valley have until December 31 to finish out their federal random drug and alcohol testing for the year, and a lot of small carriers are behind. The FMCSA random rate for 2026 remains at 50 percent for drugs and 10 percent for alcohol, measured against the calendar year. Coming up short shows up at the next audit.

For most small operators, being behind isn't an attitude problem; it's a time problem. Sending a driver to a clinic can consume half a day. A federal rule that took effect June 10, 2026 also tightened how collection sites handle direct observed tests—the kind required for return-to-duty and follow-up testing. When an observed collection is needed and there's no same-sex observer on hand, the site must call the employer to either line up a same-sex observer or send the driver to a different collection site. For a female driver, that second option can turn into a real hunt: same-sex observers are in short supply, and she stays off the clock until one is found.

"That's where being a qualified female collector actually matters," Blanchard said. "If you've got a woman who needs an observed test, I can do it right there at your yard. She's not driving all over town looking for a site that even has someone who can watch the collection."

Blanchard is a qualified DOT urine collector, a Breath Alcohol Technician, and an AABB-certified specimen collector. Her company covers Sandy, Draper, Riverton, South Jordan, Cottonwood Heights, Herriman, and Bluffdale, along with the wider Wasatch Front.
